‘Hairspray,’ ‘Les Miz’ and more coming to Eccles Theater next season

Musical biographies of Tina Turner and The Temptations, plus “Moulin Rouge!” and “Beetlejuice” on the slate.

A French courtesan, a Motown quintet, a dance-crazy teen, an R&B survivor, a fugitive in Paris, and a mean-tempered ghost will sing their hearts out during Broadway at the Eccles’ 2022-2023 season.

Broadway Across America announced the details of the new season Thursday, touting six touring stage musicals.

Existing subscribers can renew their season tickets starting Thursday morning — either online at Broadway-at-the-Eccles.com, or by phone (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 801-355-5502. No renewals will be allowed in person or by mail.

New season ticket buyers will be allowed in June. Single tickets will go on sale at a later date.

Here are the six shows scheduled for the 2022-2023 season:

(Matthew Murphy | Broadway Across America) Conor Ryan, left, plays Christian, and Courtney Reed plays Satine, in the touring production of "Moulin Rouge! The Musical." The production is scheduled to play November 30 to December 11, 2022, as part of the Broadway at the Eccles season at Salt Lake City's Eccles Theater.

November 30 to December 11 • “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” the story (adapted from Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 movie extravaganza) of a poor songwriter who falls for a well-heeled courtesan.

January 10-15, 2023 • “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations,” a musical depiction of the journey of the famed Motown quintet, from Detroit streets to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

April 11-16, 2023 • “Hairspray,” a musical (based on John Waters’ 1988 family favorite) that follows Tracy Turnblad, a dance-obsessed Baltimore teen, finding fame and controversy during the civil-rights movement. The production features Andrew Levitt, aka Nina West from “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” playing Tracy’s mother, Edna Turnblad (the role played by Divine in Waters’ film, and by John Travolta in the 2007 movie musical).

May 30 to June 4, 2023 • “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” a tune-filled biography of rock ‘n’ roll singer and survivor Tina Turner.

June 20 to July 2, 2023 • “Les Misérables,” the return of the acclaimed musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s novel about the long-imprisoned Jean Valjean trying to outrun the ruthless Inspector Javert, against the backdrop of student revolt in 19th century Paris.

August 8-13, 2023 • “Beetlejuice,” a musical adaptation of Tim Burton’s 1988 comedy, which follows an eerie teen who discovers ghosts in her house — a recently deceased couple, and a mischief-making “ghost with the most.”

Two more productions will be included as add-ons to the regular season subscription: Disney’s “The Lion King,” the visually spectacular adaptation of the 1994 animated classic (September 29 to October 23); and “Dear Evan Hansen,” which follows a depressed teen who becomes an unlikely school hero because of a letter and a lie (February 28 to March 5, 2023).
