We don’t know when “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” will complete production on Season 2 of the made-in-Utah series, but we do know when you’ll be able to stream “High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special.”
The 45-minute special is set to premiere on Friday, Dec. 11, on Disney+. It was filmed remotely at the homes of cast members Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St. Cyr and Kate Reinders, who perform Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year’s songs and share their favorite holiday memories, best (and most embarrassing) presents, favorite traditions, family photos and New Year’s resolutions.
“The holidays remind us of the universal importance of family and loved ones,” said executive producer Tim Federle, who also directs the special. “The cast of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ is its own kind of family, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to share their favorite holiday music and traditions with our viewers.”
If you can’t wait until Dec. 11, the soundtrack will be available on Nov. 20 on all major music services and streaming platforms.
The special will also include a glimpse of Season 2 of the series, and Bassett will perform an acoustic version of an original song he wrote for an upcoming episode.
“HSM:TM:TS” began production on Season 2 back in February, but the Utah-based show had to shut down in March because of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Production recently resumed, but there’s no word on when the new episodes will start streaming on Disney+.
