Usana Amphitheatre books its first concert for summer 2020, and switches its ticket service

Usana Amphitheatre has booked its first concert of the summer 2020 season — and has switched to a national ticketing service to handle ticket sales.

The 1980s supergroup Journey announced Thursday that its four-month, 60-city, 2020 tour will include a stop at Usana in West Valley City on Thursday, May 21. Chrissie Hynde’s band, The Pretenders, will be the opening act on the tour.

Usana will, starting with the Journey/Pretenders show, be selling its tickets through the national service Ticketmaster.com. The venue had used Salt Lake City-based Smith’s Tix for many years.

Ticketmaster touts its growing digital ticketing technology, allowing concertgoers to use their mobile phones to get through the gate.

As Usana shifts to digital ticketing, working with Ticketmaster “will make it easier than ever for fans to buy, sell and transfer tickets safely and securely, while enjoying faster venue entry and greater levels of personalization,” James McNeil, regional president of Live Nation SLC, said in a statement.

Tickets for the Journey/Pretenders show at Usana go on sale Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m., on Ticketmaster.com.
