Alta senior Fui Niumeitolu was in a tough spot in the Hawks’ final regular season game.

Sent to the free throw line after being fouled in the last few seconds, Niumeitolu certainly had to make at least one of two opportunities. If she didn’t, it would have been a loss to Brighton. One-out-of-two, and a tie at the end of regulation, wasn’t good enough either.

“I wasn’t really nervous. I was hungry,” said Niumeitolu, who hit both free throws, avoided an extra overtime period and went off to eat at Raising Canes.

Niumeitolu is leading Alta in both points (21.4) and rebounds (7.6) per game. The 5-foot, 10-inch forward played at Jordan High before transfering to the Hawks for her senior season. Alta finished the regular season 19-3 and won the Region 6 championship.

“I love playing at Alta. The coaches are really supportive and easy to play for,” she said.

Niumeitolu, however, doesn’t think that the Hawks, despite winning region, are necessarily playing their best ball at the moment.

“I think we can be better. I think we had a rocky region, even though we won,” she added. “But we can be better in the playoffs.”
