2003 • Hired away from New Mexico as BYU's defensive coordinator by Gary Crowton
2004 • Replaces Crowton as BYU's head football coach in December 2004
2005 • Guides Cougars to a 6-6 record and first bowl game since 2001, a 35-28 loss to California
2006 • Gets his first win over rival Utah, 33-31 at Rice-Eccles Stadium, and BYU records first winning season (11-2) in five years
2009 • Directs a 14-13 season-opening win over heavily favored Oklahoma at Arlington Stadium, probably his biggest win in his 11-year tenure as BYU's coach
2010 • Changes offensive coordinator position after 7-6 season, pushing out Robert Anae and promoting quarterbacks coach Brandon Doman
2012 • Changes entire offensive staff after 8-5 season, hires Anae back from Arizona to run the offense
2014 • Guides Cougars to their third straight 8-5 season and a 55-48 double-overtime loss to Memphis in a bowl game marred by an ugly postgame brawl
2015 • Agrees on Friday to a five-year contract to coach at Virginia in 2016, but says he will coach the Cougars in the Dec. 19 Las Vegas Bowl
