LAS VEGAS - Authorities say a man was shot outside the Excalibur casino in Las Vegas after getting into an off-duty police officer's vehicle.

Police say the shooting happened about 9 p.m. Sunday. The suspect was taken to University Medical Center with injuries that don't appear to be life-threatening.

Officials say the officer's family had been unloading packages on the side of the casino when the man got into the vehicle. Police say the officer told the man to get out, but he didn't listen, even when the officer said he was a police detective.

Police Capt. Brett Primas says the suspect then reached down below his waist, and that's when the officer shot him once in the wrist.

The suspect ran toward the front of the hotel and was caught by security.
