The Utah Utes are hopeful Travis Wilson will be back on the field for the 2014 season with the news that Wilson has been cleared to participate in non-contact drills in the spring, but the latest development hasn't prevented them from adding to their backup plan.
The Utes have announced they have signed Kendal Thompson, who is expected to graduate from Oklahoma in May.
Thompson, who was recruited by new offensive coordinator Dave Christensen, should be eligible to play right away for the Utes.
The 6-foot-1, 199-pound Thompson played in two games in 2013, going 4 of 13 for 64 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
The son of former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson, Kendal decided to transfer after losing the starting job to Trevor Knight.
Thompson redshirted in 2011 and did not play in 2012.
