TENNIS • Venus Williams couldn't dig herself out of a hole this time and lost to Eugenie Bouchard 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-4 at the Family Circle Cup on Thursday in Charleston, S.C. Williams, 33, had fought back in both of her first two matches to advance. Bouchard, 20, will next face second-seed Jelena Jankovic, who at No. 8 in the world is the highest-ranked player left in the tournament. Jankovic beat Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5, 6-1.

Ravens, TE OK deal

NFL • The Baltimore Ravens and tight end Owen Daniels have reached agreement on a 1-year contract, pending a physical. Daniels, 32, was cut by the Houston Texans last month. Baltimore has already re-signed tight end Dennis Pitta this offseason and added receiver Steve Smith.

• Veteran fullback John Kuhn has re-signed with the Green Bay Packers, coming to terms on a one-year deal expected to be worth just over $1 million.

• The Cincinnati Bengals signed strong safety Danieal Manning on Thursday, three days after his release by Houston, where he started the first six games last season before suffering a season-ending injury to his right knee.

• The New England Patriots have signed safety Patrick Chung, who returns after playing inPhiladelphia last season.
