Lake Placid, N.Y. • Steven Holcomb of the United States drove to victory in a 2-man bobsled World Cup race Friday morning, giving him five straight wins to start the season.

Holcomb and push athlete Steve Langton finished two runs in 1 minute, 50.62 seconds at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

Beat Hefti and Alex Baumann of Switzerland rallied in the second heat for second place in 1:51.25, edging Nick Cunningham and Dallas Robinson of the U.S. by 0.01 seconds.

Holcomb swept the 2- and 4-man races in Calgary and Park City to open the World Cup season, and has a chance for a trio of wins in Lake Placid. There's another 2-man race on Saturday, before the weekend series of racing concludes with the 4-man competition Sunday afternoon.
