Colorado Springs • Rex "Bud" Kerby, who helped make the Bar T Rodeo Company of Chester, Utah, one of the most respected stock contractors in the sport, was inducted in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Kerby died in 2010 at the age of 70.
During the induction ceremony, Evelyn Kerby joked that her late husband "might have given us a whippin' for nominating him." At the same time, she said, Kerby's family wished "he could be here for this moment."
Kerby's daughter, Wendie Flitton, told ProRodeo.com, "It feels different after you've actually been through the induction. You feel so humbled."
Kirby was born June 10, 1940 in Moab. His family-owned Bat T Rodeo Company has supplied stock for the National Finals Rodeo almost every year since 1960. Sparrow, in 1990, and Fancy Pants, in 2011, were named the NFR's saddle bronc horses of the year.
Others members of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2013 include former world bareback champion Chuck Logue, four-time bullfighter of the year Joe Baumgartner, ex-world saddle bronc champion Kenny McLean and former all-around and steer roping champion John Bowman.
