Ogden • Weber State, angry and disappointed, was determined not to allow its seniors to go out on a losing note at home.
Cal Poly was the unwitting victim.
So, following the Wildcats' 42-point victory in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in which they tied the school record for wins in a season, they will have at least one more home game, hosting Air Force on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Dee Events Center. The Falcons (18-13) are coming off a 69-65 victory at Hawaii on Wednesday.
It was the same day that WSU's senior guard Scott Bamforth knocked down seven 3-point baskets and scored 23 points en route to an 85-43 victory against hapless Cal Poly. Sixteen teams remain in the tournament.
Last season in the CIT, following a loss in the Big Sky Conference Tournament, the Wildcats (27-6) were not quite 100 percent committed to the CIT. Not so in 2013.
"In practice there was definitely an edge," said Weber State's junior center Kyle Tresnak, who scored 20 against Cal Poly. "We weren't just going to phone it in."
Air Force finished sixth in a strong Mountain West Conference, one that sent five teams to the NCAA Tournament. This season, the Falcons have beaten New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV. Michael Lyons averages 17.7 points.
