Tooele • The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship is coming to Miller Motorsports Park on Aug. 17.

The 12-round series begins at Hangtown outside of Sacramento, Calif., in May. It ends at Lake Elsinore, Calif., in late August, just after the stop in Utah.

The series also includes stops at top motocross facilities in Colorado, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Washington, Minnesota and New York.

MMP management will construct a permanent course on the track's infield to accommodate Round 11 of the series, according to spokesman John Gardner.

In a statement released by Miller Motorsports Park, Gov. Gary Herbert said the event will "showcase Utah to a nationally televised audience and ... generate significant economic impact to our great state."

"We are very pleased to announce the addition of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship to Miller Motorsports Park's schedule of events," said Greg Miller, CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies.

"This announcement has been a long time in the making. We appreciate the cooperation of everyone involved in helping it become a reality. We look forward to hosting the riders, teams and fans and to providing another world-class event for the state of Utah."

The AMA Supercross series will make a stop at Rice-Eccles Stadium on April 27.

The 2013 motocross series will have more than 60 hours of television coverage via NBC, the NBC Sports Network and Fuel TV.

It will also have 40 hours of international TV coverage in 18 languages, reaching more than 104 countries and 200 million homes around the world.

Tickets for the Utah National at Miller Motorsports Park go on sale Dec. 15.
