Gary Andersen has signed a contract extension that will keep him in Logan through the 2018 season, provide a pay raise for all of his assistant coaches and potentially earn him $765,000 annually with incentives.
The move was announced by Utah State on Thursday, and could be significant in keeping Andersen with the Aggies following this season, which is shaping up to be one of the best in school history.
"It is extremely important to me that we keep Gary and his staff in Logan long-term, and I know in my conversations with him this is exactly what he wants," said Utah State Athletics Director Scott Barnes. "We know what we have in coach Andersen. We didn't need to wait around until the end of the season to get this deal done.
Andersen told The Salt Lake Tribune on Monday that he had been growing weary of rumors suggesting he would leave the school after this season for a bigger program, particular in regards to recruiting. Other schools, he said, were beginning to use it against his program.
He signed his second extension in as many years three days later.
The Aggies play BYU on Friday night in Provo. Utah State is 4-1 this season, its best start since 1978.
