In "Reagan the bipartisan conservationist" (Opinion, Jan. 6), author Jim DiPeso described the American Eagle Compact, an alliance between ConservAmerica and the National Audubon Society to address both environmental and economic well-being that most Westerners believe are not mutually exclusive.
Similarly, Gov. Gary Herbert worked with community and business leaders to create the Utah Compact to address immigration. The legislation generated through this work became a national model. Utah citizens were justly proud to have helped advance the national discussion on improving federal immigration policy.
Cannot a similar "compact" be formed to meaningfully guide our gun violence debate? The school massacres, gun violence in our homes and communities — with ever-growing death tolls, disability and injury — this, too, we can address together.
A compact on gun violence would benefit everyone.
