Re "'Mormon moment' ends with a loss — but his religion still won" (Tribune, Nov. 7):
When The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says that Gov. Mitt Romney engaged at the "highest level of our democratic process" it must be referring to the presidency being our highest office and not Romney's honor and integrity.
Romney flip-flopped completely on the issues of abortion and gay rights: from supporting Roe vs. Wade to supporting personhood for fetuses, and from the "left of Ted Kennedy" to supporting the Defense of Marriage act. We have come to expect such disgusting Etch-A-Sketch vacillation in politics.
Romney started his campaign by falsely claiming President Barack Obama had said that "if we keep talking about the economy we are going to lose" (Obama was actually quoting Republican Sen. John McCain). He ended it by falsely asserting that Chrysler was moving its Jeep jobs to China. And there were many more lies in between.
This level of deception should embarrass anyone who spoke well of Romney.
We can only hope the next national candidate with Utah ties will make us proud, not just of what she or he does, but how she or he does it.
