A 74-year-old woman was robbed Saturday of her purse in a South Salt Lake parking lot, police said.

A man ran up to the woman, who was waiting for a taxi outside Reams Market at 2783 S. State Street, and pulled the purse from her shoulder, according to Gary Keller, public information officer for the South Salt Lake Police Department.

He said two bystanders chased the robber as he ran east on Claybourne Avenue but stopped when he turned and pointed a handgun at them.

The suspect — described as a Hispanic male 20- to 30-years-old wearing a white tank top, blue denim pants and a blue head rag — then got into a green Subaru Outback parked on 200 East near Claybourne and drove away, Keller said. The victim was not injured, he said.
