A hiker needed rescuing from Neff's Canyon after falling and injuring his head.

The 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman went hiking in the Salt Lake County canyon Friday and were climbing over some rocks when the man fell, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. He fell about 4 to 6 feet and cut to his head, Hoyal said.

Rescuers were called about 5:19 p.m., but it took crews a while to reach the pair since they were a little more than 1.7 miles into the canyon and over rocks, Hoyal said.

The lieutenant characterized the man's injury as minor, and his companion had administered first aid.

Rescuers expected to have the man and woman out of the canyon by Friday night.
