The season's first wildfire threatened homes Friday afternoon in Iron County before being contained by firefighters.
The Bulldog Fire burned 45 acres near Enoch, north of Cedar City, wrote Mike Melton, fire management officer with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, in a news release.
Thirty homes were threatened by the fire, which was 100 percent contained as of 7 p.m., the news release states.
The fire, at Bulldog Road at about 3800 North, was caused by a farmer burning old vegetation in fields west of Bulldog Road about 3:45 p.m., said Iron County sheriff's Sgt. Charles Triplett.
Winds with gusts up to 40 mph helped spread the fire, which burned three power poles, valued at $15,000, and caused a power outage; Rocky Mountain Power was replacing those poles Friday evening, Triplett said.
Fire personnel from the Cedar City, Paragonah, Parowan, Kanarraville, the U.S. Forest Service, the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands and the Bureau of Land Management responded to the blaze.
