Logan Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis has stepped down, ending a 25-year career with the Cache County city's law enforcement agency.
Curtis submitted his letter of resignation on Monday, indicating he planned to take personal time off until he formally retires on May 30.
Police Chief Gary Jensen praised Curtis for his decades of dedicated service and professionalism in multiple law enforcement and administrative assignments.
"Assistant Chief Curtis is a good man and police officer and has served the citizens of Logan well for 25 years. I wish him well in life and in his retirement," Jensen said Friday.
Curtis did not answer his home telephone Friday and did not return a message seeking comment.
However, Curtis' resignation reportedly came soon after allegations that his son, former Cache County Sheriff's Deputy Justin Curtis, had been accused of taking and pawning two cases of ammunition.
Both Jensen and Logan Mayor H. Craig Petersen have denied that the elder Curtis' departure was in any way related to the younger Curtis' situation.
Jensen does not plan to replace Curtis, indicating his $126,000-plus salary will be used to help increase wages for remaining officers.
A Logan native, Curtis had steadily moved up through the ranks since joining the LPD, progressing from parking enforcement to police officer, sergeant, lieutenant and then captain. Jensen promoted him to assistant chief in 2010.
