Downtown Salt Lake City parking meters will be back on line Wednesday . Motorists should be forewarned that enforcement begins at 8 a.m. that day.

The system went down June 29, due in part to what Mayor Ralph Becker's office said was "extreme weather conditions."

"Troubleshooting efforts pinpointed overheating computer circuit boards as the source of most of the failures, which were complicated by a simultaneous issue with software server slowdowns,"the statement said.

High temperatures and related problems also resulted in "a spate of failures related to credit/debit card readers."

The estimated loss of revenue during the outage was $90,000.

The mayor's office said it will continue to review the parking meter system to determine if upgrades are necessary "to ensure uninterrupted service during periods of high outdoor temperatures."
