An 18-year-old Harrisville man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle early Monday morning.
Harrisville police Chief Max Jackson said Devereaux Hallett was riding his bike to work at 7:52 a.m. when a northbound vehicle ran a red light and hit Hallett as he crossed Wall Avenue.
Jackson said Hallett — who was not wearing a helmet — was launched between 65 and 70 feet from the point of impact and he appeared to be in "fairly serious to critical condition" before being transported to McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden. He was improving Monday night, Jackson said.
Jackson estimated that the vehicle, a gray Saturn sedan, was travelling about 35 mph when it struck Hallett.
Jackson said the driver, a 38-year-old male, is cooperating with the investigation. There was no clear indication that drugs or alcohol was a factor, Jackson said, and the department will await the results of a toxicology test before deciding whether or not to press charges.
The driver was not injured in the collision.
