A 34-year-old who shot a man to death at a Taylorsville apartment complex in 2011 was sentenced to prison Tuesday.
Rodney Amato Liti, who was convicted of manslaughter by a jury in April, will spend two to 20 years in the Utah State Prison for the slaying of Anthony Fili at the Summerwood Apartments, 5624 S. 1900 West, on Nov. 5, 2011.
In addition to manslaughter, a second-degree felony, Liti also was convicted of possession of a dangerous weapon, obstruction of justice and possession of a controlled substance.
He was ordered to serve up to 15 years in prison for possessing a dangerous weapon and zero to five for both obstruction and possession of a controlled substance.
But 3rd District Judge Bruce Lubeck ruled the Liti will serve all four sentences concurrently.
Liti has been in custody since his arrest in November 2011 after police caught him near the scene of the shooting.
Witnesses told officers they saw Liti physically fight with Fili and then shoot him, according to charging documents.
Taylorsville police detectives said drugs were the reason for the fight and shooting.
Liti allegedly admitted to police that he had thrown away two handguns near the scene of the crime.
The court also ordered Liti to pay "full restitution" to the Board of Pardons but did not immediately specify an amount.
