A Utah Highway Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries Sunday when his patrol car was struck by another motorist on an Interstate 15 off-ramp near Nephi.
The trooper, whose name was not released, is the 17th UHP officer to be involved in an accident this year, said UHP spokeswoman Jalaine Hawkes.
The trooper was headed south on State Route 28 when a Hyundai Santa Fe that had been stopped at a stop sign pulled into his lane just before the northbound I-15 ramp at exit 222, UHP said in a news release.
The trooper swerved to avoid a collision, but the rear passenger side of the patrol car was hit. The trooper's vehicle spun and stopped in the northbound lane and facing north.
Two adults and three juveniles, all from Provo, were in the Hyundai, UHP said. Three of them were take by ambulance to Central Valley Medical Center in Nephi for treatment. Their injuries were not considered life threatening, UHP said.
The accident remains under investigation.
