Salem police on Saturday had one person in custody following a domestic incident which apparently resulted in another's death.
Police Chief Brad James answered few questions about the case. His officers went to a couple's home in the 400 East block of 300 South about 7 p.m. following a 911 caller's report of a domestic violence problem. Inside, officers found one spouse dead, James said.
The surviving spouse was being questioned by investigators Saturday evening.
The name of the deceased person was not released, pending the notification of family and James declined to say whether the deceased was male or female.
The chief also declined to say whether the case was being investigated as a homicide or how the person died.
"We are in the very initial stages of the investigation," he said. "We're still piecing together the circumstances and the facts."
James could not say Saturday whether there is a history of domestic violence problems at the residence or who had called police on Saturday.
