Taylorsville • Bradley W. Christopherson, an attorney, was appointed Wednesday to serve as the District 3 City Council member for the remainder of 2013.
He will be sworn in at noon Thursday at Taylorsville City Hall, 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. (5325 South).
Christopherson replaces Jerry Rechtenbach, a council member for nine years, who was selected last month to serve the remainder of Taylorsville Mayor Russ Wall's term through the end of the year. Wall resigned to take a job as Salt Lake County's director of public works and regional development.
Christopherson, 35, was one of seven applicants for the position. In a first round of balloting, the field was narrowed to the top four vote-getters. Council members approved Christopherson 3-1 in a second round, with Larry Johnson casting the dissenting vote.
The other finalists were Dave Ballou, an insurance agent and broker; Daryl Gudmundson, an insurance and securities agent; and Tally Pond, president of a marketing company.
Also applying were Matthew T. Dill, owner/operator of a small business; Jeremy Stauffer, account manager for an insurance software company; and Milton C. Witt, a financial planner.
Christopherson has his own law practice and is a lifelong Taylorsville resident. He and his wife, Wendy, have three children.
The annual salary for a council member is $13,219. The four-year council term runs until January 2016; the seat will be up for election in November and the winner will serve the remaining two years, beginning in January 2014.
After that, the seat will come up for election every four years.
