Mayoral vacancy • Candidates who want to serve as mayor have until 5 p.m. Friday to turn in their applications at City Hall, 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd. (5325 South). The application can be found online at http://www.taylorsvilleut.gov. The term runs from January 2013 to January 2014. An open house for Mayor Russ Wall, who is resigning to take a position with Salt Lake County, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall.

O Christmas tree • Ready to get rid of your Christmas tree? Be sure to remove all lights, decorations, tinsel, stands and anything else that's artificial first. Christmas trees will be picked up curbside Jan. 4-31 on collection days in Kearns, Magna and Taylorsville. In West Valley City, they will be collected through January on residents' regular service day; the trees should be cut in half before being placed on the curb. West Valley residents also can drop off trees through Jan. 12 at City Park, 4400 W. 3400 South, and West View Park, 6020 W. 4100 South.
