West Valley police Monday released little additional information about an officer-involved shooting last week that left one woman dead and a police officer injured.
Police Sgt. Mike Powell said he had no new information about the Friday afternoon shooting at 2292 W. Lexington Park Drive (3710 South) that left Danielle Misha Willard, 21, dead and a city police officer injured.
Powell did say that the injured officer has since been treated and released from the hospital. He added that two detectives remain on paid administrative leave, as is standard in officer-involved shooting cases, while the investigation continues.
Police have said two detectives were conducting an unspecified investigation at the apartments when the shooting started about 1:20 p.m. Police have not said whether gunshots were exchanged or if only the officers fired. They have said the officer's injuries were not the result of gunshots.
Willard's family said she moved from Washington to Utah in April to attend a Murray rehabilitation facility to fight a heroin addiction. They said she seemed to be doing better, but weren't sure if Willard had relapsed.
Willard's mother has said she hoped to meet with West Valley City detectives later this week to get some answers.
