A two-vehicle crash on Bangerter Highway in south Salt Lake City late Wednesday morning injured three people, two critically.

Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said the 8:40 a.m. crash occurred at the south intersection of the highway with 1820 South. Witnesses said the northbound male pickup truck driver ran a red light, T-boning a southbound passenger car as it made a left turn onto the highway.

The pickup truck driver sustained minor injuries. The two female occupants of a passenger car were taken by ambulance to a hospital, where they remained in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

All lanes through the area were restricted for several hours as investigators inspected the scene and wreckage was cleared. Normal traffic flow through the area was restored about 1:30 p.m.

Johnson said no citations were immediately issued while the case remained under investigation.
