A man was killed late Tuesday when he was struck by a car while putting fuel in the tank of a car that was stopped in an emergency lane of Interstate 15 near Farmington.

The man, 52, was standing at the opening to the gas tank on the driver's side of a car parked in the northbound emergency lane near Lagoon about 9:30 p.m., troopers said. Another northbound car drifted right, striking the man and the parked car.

The man died at the scene; the car that hit him spun back into northbound traffic and was struck by a third vehicle, troopers said.

At least one other person suffered minor injuries, troopers said.
