Events took a strange turn for a husband allegedly abusing his wife early Sunday morning when he came face-to-face with a man armed with a Chinese throwing star.

Salt Lake City police Lt. Scott White said a husband was allegedly choking his wife about 2 a.m. at an apartment in the area of 700 North and 900 West when the domestic dispute spilled out onto the street as the wife tried to flee the apartment.

Once outside the apartment, the couple allegedly encountered two homeless men.

White said one of the homeless men, known only as Strange, allegedly stabbed the husband in the neck with a Chinese throwing star.

The husband was transported to Intermountain Medical Center for treatment, but was expected to recover, White said.

Strange, described only as a Hispanic man, fled the scene. White said it appeared the husband was being the aggressor against the wife, and officers wonder if perhaps Strange stepped in to try to defend her. Police want to question him, White said.

The second homeless man was not involved in the altercation.

White said the husband was being investigated for domestic violence.
