Police on Saturday released new information about a woman suspected of a hit-and-run that killed a 1-year-old girl in Taylorsville.

The woman sells shaved ice, tamales and corn on the cob from a minivan, said Taylorsville police Detective Shannon Bennett. She drives through the Majestic Oaks community near 807 W. 4650 South approximately every three days, honking a bicycle horn to call for buyers. She is described as a Latina in her early 20s.

The woman was driving a white 1996 to 2000 minivan, possibly a Dodge Caravan, in the area on Friday night, according to police. The vehicle had dark tinted windows, rust on the rocker panels and black molding on the doors.

She allegedly hit 1-year-old Vixita Maribel Garcia as she made a U-turn, Bennett said, then drove away. It wasn't clear whether the driver knew the toddler had been struck. Vixita was at a party with her family and had wandered out to the street. She died at the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash can call police at 801-743-7000.
