Love it, loathe it or just plain languish over its enduring presence, "The Sound of Music" isn't going anywhere. So when you bring out a musical-theater warhorse that needs no dusting off, you might as well add something new to it.

Thank your lucky stars that's what Hale Centre Theatre of West Valley City decided on when they put Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic on the season program. Director Christopher Clark has added not only two new songs to the soundtrack everyone knows and hums, he's also included the stage number not found in the film version starring Julie Andrews. So on top of "Do Re Mi" and "My Favorite Things" you also get "Something Good," "I Have Confidence" and "How Can Love Survive?" When a local company goes to all this trouble, taking so much care behind the scenes, do the Nazis and adorable singing children of family Captain von Trapp fade to black at the center of musical cliché? Not quite. But you get the idea.

Hale Centre Theatre's production stars Mark Knowles and Matthew Dobson in rotating roles as Captain von Trapp, with Cecily Ellis-Bills and Megan Heaps alternating as Maria.
