Arun Gandhi, the grandson of India's legendary leader Mohandas K. Gandhi, will talk about nonviolence and social activism at two events in the Salt Lake City area on Wednesday, Feb. 29.
• At noon, Gandhi will speak at the Markosian Library at Salt Lake Community College's Taylorsville/Redwood campus, 4600 S. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City.
• At 7 p.m., he will speak at the City Library auditorium, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City.
Gandhi is co-founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence. Like his famous grandfather, Arun Gandhi has dedicated his life to social justice and nonviolent political action. His work has promoted economic and social reform in India and the United States, and worked on peace projects with groups ranging from President Bill Clinton's Renaissance Weekend organization to the Palestinian Parliament. He also is a writer and journalist.
Both events are free to the public, and presented by the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable, as part of National Interfaith Month. Other sponsors arethe Salt Lake Community College Speaker's Bureau, the Tanner Humanities Center at the University of Utah, and the Democracy in South Asia Forum at the University of Utah.
