Fran Drescher ("The Nanny") draws on her real life in the new sitcom Happily Divorced (11:30 p.m., TV Land). She stars as Fran, a woman whose husband of 18 years, Peter (John Michael Higgins), announces that he's gay.
Fran takes this pretty well. So well that they end up continuing to share the same house, because neither can afford to move out.. And her ex-hubby is there when she starts dating again.
While it's true that Drescher and her ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobsen - an executive producer of this show as well as "The Nanny" - went through something similar, that does not mean that "Happily Divorced" seems like anything approaching reality. It's a throw-back to sitcoms that were one gag after another.
And very few of them are even vaguely funny.
If you're a big Fran Drescher fan, you might enjoy "Happily Divorced." Otherwise, probably not.
