Snow Canyon's Riley Gates was named the Gatorade Utah baseball player of the year Tuesday.

Gates helped lead the Warriors to a repeat of the Class 3A state title earlier this month.

Gates is the first Gatorade player of the year from Snow Canyon. He went 6-4 with a 0.83 ERA and 114 strikeouts over 59 innings this season. He threw two no-hitters.

Gates also provided plenty of punch at the plate. He batted .446 with three homers and 37 RBIs.

"Riley Gates is a tremendous kid who I have immensely enjoyed coaching the last four years," Snow Canyon coach Reed Secrist said in a release. "He's been the go-to guy whenever we need a win. He will be sorely missed when he graduates this year."

Gates signed to play at BYU next season.
