Green River Fishing Report for August 16th, 2013Flows continue to be around 1000 during the day.Hatches: Tricos, small PMD's. Small ants, beetles and hoppers are about as well. The dog days of summer are filled with lower flows and more technical fishing. After months of being caught the fish are more wary and cautious. There have been pockets of trico hatches which have provide fast dry fly fishing. I like to fish small ants to these fish instead of matching the size 24's that abound. Dead drifting streamers can still be productive, but has slowed with the number of folks using this technique. Scuds, midge larva, and pmd emergers are the primary food sources for nymph fishing. Terrestrial fishing can still be productive, especially in the evenings. This is a great time of year to do an evening float. The colors of the canyon change in the evening light and can be spectacular. If you find your out a little to late and dark sets in try fishing a mouse. With the dry conditions there have been a fair number of animals visiting the river. Moose, deer, marmots and other critters have given us a glimpse into there lives.
