BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy didn't make the USA Today All-America Football Team (first or second team) that was published on Wednesday. But on Thursday, the senior from Reno, Nev., got some good news. Van Noy received second-team honors on the Walter Camp All-America Team, the nation's oldest All-America team. The team is picked by the Walter Camp Foundation. The last BYU player to earn Walter Camp recognition was tight end Dennis Pitta, in 2012. Pitta (2008 and 2009) and Van Noy (2012 and 2013) are the last two BYU players to have now received All-America honors in back-to-back seasons. It will be interesting to see how Van Noy fares on some of the more prestigious All-America teams, which will be announced later this month. Clearly, the senior was playing hurt the last few games of the season, and the Cougars' injury situation at the other linebacker positions (Spencer Hadley, particularly) seemed to have an adverse effect on Van Noy. Teams were able to run plays away from his side. Van Noy finished the regular season with 16 tackles for loss, four sacks and 14 quarterback hurries. He was in on 63 tackles and had two interceptions. He scored the fifth defensive touchdown of his career. Heading into the Dec. 27 bowl game against Washington, Van Noy needs a blocked kick and a forced fumble to again record a stat in every defensive category. He did that in 2011 and 2012.
