Both BYU and Utah State made it official on Wednesday morning around 9:20 a.m. — tonight's scheduled basketball game at the Marriott Center has been postponed. Both schools' releases said the game will be rescheduled for a later date, but did not provide specifics. As reported by The Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday evening, officials decided to postpone the contest due to the serious medical condition of Utah State basketball player Danny Berger. The junior from Medford, Ore., collapsed during practice in Logan on Tuesday and his heart stopped. Berger had his heart re-started by an automatic external defibrillator and was taken to a local hospital before being flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. A Utah State news release Wednesday morning described Berger as being in "critical condition" at IMC and said "tests and evaluations are ongoing." Naturally, folks are wondering when the game will be played. It would seem that next Wednesday (Dec. 12) would be a good date, seeing as how neither team is scheduled to play a midweek game. However, it is finals week, and both coaches in the past have shown they hate playing a meaningful or important game during that week that is so taxing on their players.
