The Olympics are coming! The Olympics are coming!
Again!
Thanks to the continuing efforts of our organizing committee, continuing international winter competitions using the original 2002 athletic sites and overwhelming enthusiasm of our citizens.
But what new challenges must we face to host the world again and earn its admiration?
Yes, some infrastructure and communication upgrades.
But with the trending increasing impact of climate change producing uncertain seasonal extremes, will there be enough snow and can we still breathe the air in 10 years?
Relying on a likely persistent dominant state Republican Legislature, will they have the foresight and, frankly, the spine to stop the waste of water to grow alfalfa for China, cut back Great Salt Lake diversions by MAG Corp. and incentivize/mandate essential water conservation policies along our Wasatch Front to preserve our livable environment?
If we do host another successful winter Olympics, it will largely be because of state and federal governments’ environmental quality of life commitments for Utahns and all U.S. citizens.
Time to put aside partisan blind loyalties and, in the privacy of your voting booth, push the levers for those most capable and devoted to our best American values.
