Letter: Show the Senate kindness and forgiveness

(Patrick Semansky | AP file photo) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky., speaks with reporters after meeting with Senate Republicans at their weekly luncheon on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, May 19, 2020. Standing with McConnell are Senate Majority Whip John Thune, R-S.D., left, and Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo.

Great reminder of kindness and forgiveness, at the same time, helping to break stereotypes of the Holy Quran (“Remember kindness and forgiveness,” The Salt Lake Tribune, May 23).

At this time of hunger, homelessness and pandemic, we can exercise our kindness and forgiveness muscles. First, by forgiving the Senate for not taking up the latest House COVID relief bill. Then kindness, by calling, writing and even virtually visiting our senators and asking them to pass this latest package that addresses relief for millions of American renters about to become homeless, those without enough food by increasing the SNAP (food stamp program) and, perhaps most importantly, bailing out our state and local governments who are leading the battle to protect us from the pandemic.

Done in the spirit of kindness, with enough of us speaking up, we can surely cause the Senate to act, protecting all of us and helping millions of suffering Americans.
