Letter: Politicians forget to do their jobs

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Sandy resident Jamie Zayach, right, pressured Rep. Ben McAdams on whether he would vote in support of impeaching the president Friday at a scheduled health and wellness town hall at the Midvale Senior Center. “He is straddling the fence and I think he’s concerned about re-election,” said Zayach. “I think he needs to take a stand.” Rep. Ben McAdams on Friday said that while he will not prejudge the outcome of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, a formal probe is necessary to determine the facts.

Regarding the Dec. 6 Salt Lake Tribune article, "McAdams, some other Democrats may break party ranks," it would appear some Democratic politicians are suffering from the same malaise that Republican politicians have felt since Donald Trump gained total control of the Republican Party.

To paraphrase a line from the movie "The American President," it appears to me American politicians have become so concerned about keeping their jobs, they've forgotten how to do their jobs.

That said, it remains difficult for me to take any politician seriously who is driven more by their paycheck than their personal convictions.
