Letter: O’Rourke is right about weapons of war

(David J. Phillip | AP file photo) Democratic presidential candidate former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke greets supporters Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, after a Democratic presidential primary debate hosted by ABC at Texas Southern University in Houston.

Hell, yes, Beto O’Rourke. Private citizens should not have weapons of war.

Nobody wants to take away your hand guns or hunting rifles — those that can only kill one person or animal at a time.

The crisis is about the weapons designed to kill as many people as you can in the shortest amount of time. It's about fragmenting bullets, high-capacity magazines and the rest, the only purposes of which is to maim and kill as quickly and viciously as possible.

For 33 years, it's been illegal to own machine guns. This happened when the mob was killing dozens of people on the street. So, why do we allow you to own the modern, improved version of machine guns — AK47 or AR15?

Now, we're again seeing dozens of people dying repeatedly — in the streets and churches and synagogues and schools and night clubs and concerts.

Wake up, America. The Second Amendment is not a blank check to own any weapon you want.

I believe "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" overrules your owning an AR-15.
