Letter: Voter initiatives should stand
(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Aubrey Taylor Long gives two "thumbs down" to the 60 House members who voted to change the Utah Medical Cannabis Act, the bill that officials, Prop 2 opponents and medical marijuana advocates crafted and pitched as a compromise. On Monday, Dec. 2, 2018 during a special session, lawmakers voted for an overwritten version of the ballot initiative.

Given the difficulty of the process to place an initiative on the ballot in the state of Utah, it seems to me that once a proposition has passed in an election, state legislators should not be allowed to immediately repeal it.
In the case of the medical marijuana bill, the Legislature has avoided dealing with the issues for years and now claims to have the perfect solution. Such hubris!
