An amazing thing happened the other day as I was sipping my coffee and reading The Salt Lake Tribune. I read an opinion piece by Paul Mero that I actually agreed with ("Trump has chased me from the GOP, and you should leave too," July 22).

Sure, as usual, there were aspects I didn't agree with, but overall I think Mero showed courage, integrity and intellectual honesty, something not found in many other GOP stalwarts who are holding their noses as they goosestep their way towards voting for an obvious narcissist, bigot and fear-monger who is the dangerously ignorant and unqualified GOP presidential candidate.

If I remember right I agreed with Mero once before, but I don't recall the topic and it was a long time ago, so you can imagine my joy with this piece. Would that others would stand so decisively in voting their conscience instead of their blind political biases. My honest praise to Mero.

That's one in a row, Paul. Congratulations.
