Hooray for the sore loser! Would that other Republican politicians, elected and un, had the courage of that short guy from Texas! What Ted Cruz lacks in height he makes up in holding fast to his principles, whether they be loyalty to loved ones or loyalty to his vision of this great experiment in representative democracy that is the United States of America.

Contrary to Donald Trump's opinion, the loyalty oath to the winner of the Republican primary did not require an endorsement. Speaking at the convention did not require an endorsement. And voting for Trump, Cruz may well do (on a secret ballot, as is our custom) does not require an endorsement, nor should it.

Gov. Chris Christie can call Cruz's move selfish if he likes, but he is actually the selfish one, more interested in his own career than in principles. Newt Gingrich is so determined to remain in the gratuitous limelight of other politicians that he has made himself ridiculous. And in orchestrating the chorus of "boos" at the end of Cruz's speech, Trump has shown himself once again to be vindictive and mean-spirited, invitations to speak notwithstanding. I am glad there are persons in public service who stay true to their core beliefs in spite of the consequences. Go, Cruz!
