Where in the world has it gone?

We used to value facts, moderation, common sense and civility. Perhaps we should add this to our prerequisites for running for political office.

Strong opinions have always been present, but this year's debates, discourse, tweets and now the first political convention have been so full of hateful insults and vitriol that it is actually frightening. Campaigns have gone way beyond negative ads and snark into completely dehumanizing opponents.

It seems like Trump's barrage of insults has modeled a new offensive way to behave. Is it really acceptable from a convention floor to suggest you should string up your opponent or shoot them for treason? Information and inspiration would certainly be a welcome relief.

I only hope the Democrats can do it better.
