Suppose I was coming to visit Utah for the first time. I would get off the plane at the airport and rent a car. Let's say my first destination is the Bountiful LDS Temple.

The person at the car-rental agency tells me to "take Interstate 215 northbound and to watch for and turn off on Legacy Parkway."

Going north on Legacy, the first exit sign says "500 South — 1 mile." The next exit sign states "500 South — 1/2 mile" with no hint as to what city you are approaching.

I take the 500 South exit, and just before coming to the stop sign, a sign on my right says "Woods Cross, W. Bountiful, Bountiful," all pointing east. I'm thinking that common sense would have placed the city sign out on the highway by the exit sign.

Following on Legacy Parkway to the next exit, the sign says "Parrish Lane — 1 mile."

Again, no hint as to what city. Taking the Parrish Lane exit, just before coming to the stop sign, I will see a sign on my right which says "Centerville/West Bountiful."

Again, I think common sense would have placed the city sign out on the highway before the exit sign.

As a person drives up and down the Wasatch Front on 1-15, there are many exit signs that tell what city you are exiting into, and there are many that don't.

Where is the common sense?
