The season of lights began Friday as shoppers and sightseers flooded downtown Salt Lake City under seasonally illuminated buildings and amid festively decorated streets.

The Gallivan Center hosted its annual lighting celebration, which included ice skaters, more than 350,000 lights and a 60-foot tree.

Temple Square's displays are a perennial draw for the holidays, and they continued that tradition Friday.

Next door, at the City Creek shopping center, Macy's showed off its window displays of candy tableaus.
