A female pedestrian was in serious condition after running into the side of a Salt Lake City police crime scene laboratory vehicle near an Interstate 80 off-ramp late Tuesday night.

The woman — reportedly high on the street drug "spice" — lurched off a traffic barrier and darted into traffic, slamming into the SLCPD vehicle just before midnight near 600 South and 500 West.

Investigation of the incident was turned over to the Utah Highway Patrol, since SLCPD personnel were involved.

UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said investigators had determined the 26-year-old victim was homeless.

She initially had been transported in critical condition, but later was reported to have been stabilized at the hospital.
