Several homes and a school in West Valley City were evacuated Tuesday afternoon due to a natural gas leak. No injuries were reported.

West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said the leak, reported just before noon, shut down 3100 South between 4400 and 4800 West.

Police and firefighters were on the scene, and Questar crews were working to pin down the location of the leak and make repairs.

Granite School District officials said that Monroe Elementary, which enrolls 700 students, would remain closed the rest of the day.

Fifty homes were evacuated about 5 p.m. Tuesday.
